I have always been fascinated by the variety and subtle beauty of lichens. Xanthoria parientina, in particular, a bright yellow-orange lichen that clings to the grey rock along the North Shore and the East and West Coasts are some of the most beautiful, in my opinion.
The Project Space Grant, with generous support from Anita and Marvin Kolman, enabled me to create a gallery full of encaustic paintings that celebrates these fascinating organisms. This abstracted lichens series allowed me to explore new and unusual methods to achieve the colors, textures, and shapes I have appreciated for so long.
Visit Kolman & Reeb Gallery this summer and experience lichens in a whole new way.
